Jessica's Top 10 Photo's of June 2021

Once a month our creative team gathers together to look through that month’s photoshoots.

It is an inspiring evening where we  give each other feedback,  hear the amazing stories of our clients and create new Ideas for the next month.

Each of our photographers will share their favourites from that month, here are Jessica’s…

My favourite photos from June 2021…

1. vulnerability.

Our clients tell us everyday “ I just want to see the real me”.

We spend so much time pretending to be something that we are not. Putting on a fake smile when you are hurting inside, faking the appearance of a perfect stepford family when there is turmoil at home.  Having your portrait taken can be intimidating because people are often afraid that we will see through the fakeness into their true vulnerable selves, when there is nothing to hide behind what will we see?

2. dark angel bound.

The hands bound with ropes symbolising her past, the wings symbolising her future.

Elizabeth wanted to capture the beauty and darkness of her personal journey, breaking free from the darkness, enabling her to stretch her wings and fly away.

A photograph can become a powerful memory for important moments in your life, a visual tool to express your feelings where words fail.

3. The comfort of friends.

A nude photoshoot can be a confronting experience for many women, but at the same time it is therapeutic and rewarding. A moment to celebrate your body and the journey it has carried you through, creating images that become totems for positivity and change.

It is a powerful experience, where you are revealing more than just skin.

This image captures a beautiful moment between best friends of vulnerability, support and love.

4.  sisters

This was a photo I took of two identical sisters last year sometime that I wanted to showcase in this months photos.

The photo happened at the very end of the photoshoot when I asked the girls if they wouldn’t mind me painting them and they said ‘hell yeah!’

I love the power of the emotion within this image where the gold on their dark skin reveals a tribal and beautiful finish of two powerful women

5. girl on fire.

I love a hair flip, where women look wild and untamed like lionesses.

6. queen.

7. BEAUTIFUL VELVET.

Lush, velvety red textures with moody silhouette lighting creating a dark and sexy portrait, this bride to be created some very sexy portraits to surprise her fiancé with on their wedding night.

8. culture.

Lesi is Fijian and wanted to create portraits that celebrated her heritage.  It is important to look back to your heritage to learn from our families,  Showing off who you are at the core is such a beautiful way to pay homage to your background and roots.

9. every girl wants to be a princess.

Our glamour room was perfect for Dawn to play in for her princess portrait. With the soft white textures, ornate wallpaper and golden mirrors complimenting her pretty pink dress, she felt like   princess in a fairytale.

10. the classic family portraits.

At first glance it might look like your normal nice family portraits; classic, relaxed and a little funny, but it is so much more than that for me.

This was the first family I photographed after my father passed away and having the same dynamic of 1 boy and three girls in my own family, I felt connected to them.

I felt compelled to create beautiful memories for them, knowing that these moments will be treasured and looked back on in the future with great fondness.

I wish that every family would take the time to capture those moments. I hear every day the excuses for why people delay their family portrait “I need to lose weight, too busy with work, my teenagers are too hormonal”  there is no better time than the present, you just don’t know  how much time you have left, soak it up!

A photo is so much more than a piece of paper or social media post, they are records of the things that are important to us, triggers for emotional retrospection, mementos you only truly appreciate after the moment has disappeared.
