Photography Presentation at TAFE
Recently, our photographer Jessica Truscott was invited to speak with photography students at TAFE. With almost 20 years of experience behind the camera, Jessica has built a highly recognised body of work. Her photography spans empowering portraiture at Zest, with her fantasy stock images published on hundreds of book covers, as well as receiving multiple industry awards throughout her career.
She shared insights into creative portraiture, the journey to become a professional photographer and the artistic process behind fantasy inspired imagery through a studio demonstration. These images are from that photoshoot.
Over the years, our team has built a reputation not only for creating empowering portrait experiences for women, but also for pushing creative boundaries within the photography industry itself. One of the things we’re most proud of is being invited to share that knowledge with emerging photographers and creatives.
The photography industry is constantly evolving. But the heart of portrait photography has always remained the same, the ability to create art that evokes emotion. The reason our team has remained strong through constant industry change is a longstanding commitment to client experience and a deep curiosity about people’s stories.
Being able to share our experience with students and upcoming photographers is something we deeply value because education helps strengthen the future of photography as an art form.
During the presentation, Jessica spoke about how, at Zest, it is understood that technical skill alone is not what draws people in or defines success. A large part of portrait photography comes down to how you work with people, especially those who may feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. She discussed the psychology behind portraiture and why understanding people is just as important as understanding lighting or equipment.
During the live studio demonstration, Jessica worked with a professional model to showcase some of the posing techniques we use at Zest. Incorporating flowing red silk fabric, flowers and feathers into the shoot to add whimsical fantasy elements. Using a single light source, Jessica also demonstrated how photographers can create atmospheric portraits without complicated studio setups
We are incredibly grateful for opportunities like this to connect with the next generation of photographers and share the creative techniques that continue to inspire our own work.
If you’re ready to experience a portrait session that goes beyond photography, or you’re a photographer looking to grow your creative and psychological approach to portraiture, we invite you to explore our work and get in touch.
